    Linn-Mar Community School District in Marion, Iowa, has an immediate opening for an Athletic Grounds/Facilities Specialist.  This year-round, full-time position will supervise an athletic fields crew and participates in the manicuring and maintenance of Linn-Mar athletic fields and facilities so that they are safe, clean and attractive for students, staff and patrons.  Supervises and participates in the preparation of athletic fields for practices, games, matches and other events.  Occasional overtime will be required.

    Duties:

    • Supervise and participate in the general maintenance of athletic grounds and District grounds as needed to include:
      • Mowing, trimming, fertilizing and spraying
      • General maintenance of sidewalks, paths, parking lots and playgrounds
      • Properly clean and store equipment after use
    • Work cooperatively with Athletic Directors, Administrators and other District staff in all athletic facility events
    • Make final determination for playing fields safety and satisfactory conditions for athletic events in regard to weather or incident postponements/cancelations.
    • Ensure all Athletic grounds are kept clean and debris and litter is removed
    • Participate in personnel administrative functions (e.g. interviewing, selecting, evaluation, supervising, training, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel, and achieving department and District objectives.
    • Supervise and participate in the set up prior to all athletic events:
      • Groom and Maintain playing fields
      • Mow and trim designated areas
      • Move/set up athletic equipment both indoors and outdoors
      • Set up and store equipment before and after athletic events
    • Supervise and participate in the removal and proper storage of all equipment after athletic events
    • Maintain safe working conditions to ensure the safety of all students, visitors and District staff
    • Maintain regular, preventative and predictive maintenance programs for school athletic facilities
    • Make minor repairs on equipment such as mowers and line painters used in set up and maintenance for athletic events
    • Supervise and participate with the installation and repair of irrigation at athletic fields.
    • Write and submit work orders for maintenance needs of athletic facilities and equipment
    • Perform light maintenance relating to athletic fields/complexes, courts and playing surfaces
    • Operate recreational equipment such as mowers, tractors, skid steer, line painter, utility vehicles, etc.
    • Coordinate with the Building and Grounds Supervisor winter snow removal from district lots
    • Enforce rules and regulations for the safety and welfare of staff and participants
    • Operate a motor vehicle for the purpose of picking up supplies, transporting needed equipment to designated facilities or maintaining athletic facility grounds
    • Regular and reliable attendance
    • Other duties as assigned

    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    Supervise and evaluate workers as assigned

    Minimum Education or Experience

    High school graduate or GED

    Two or four year turf degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience and have valid driver’s license

    Must be willing to obtain a CDL class A combination license

    Possess an Iowa certified pesticide applicators license

    ASSISTANT TURF MANAGER

    Iowa State University

     

    The ISU Athletics Department is accepting applications for a Turf and Field Management Specialist I. This position will assist the team in combining science and training to maintain optimum playing surfaces, surrounding turf areas, and the common grounds for the Athletics Department. This position will initially service the Cyclone Sports Complex (CSC which is home to Soccer, Softball, Cross Country Course and Track and Field), but field assignments are subject to change.

    • Assists in analysis, planning, execution and maintenance of natural and synthetic field surfaces and set-up for competitions.
    • Helps determine proper species and cultivars of grass, mowing height, timing of top dressing and aeration, fertilization and weed management, and irrigation needs.
    • Assesses turf quality and performs regular maintenance and seasonal upkeep.
    • Prepares fields/grounds for competitions by laying out and painting field stripes, logos, markings, signage, etc. according to regulations for each sport.
    • Maintains surrounding grounds via landscaping, mowing, snow removal, etc.
    • Supervises the access and use of the areas while maintaining optimum playing conditions.
    • Assists in coordinating grounds and equipment maintenance schedules, developing procedures, and recommending products.
    • Regularly assesses weather conditions, renders advice or opinions, handles conversion and protection of athletic fields during special events.
    • Builds and manages internal and external business relationships.
    • for commitment to compliance with NCAA, conference, university, and department regulations and processes.

    The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of turf management principles including experience with a variety of sports and playing surfaces; an understanding of governing requirements for field layouts and markings; the ability to problem solve and communicate effectively with others. Requires the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions; regular walking, pushing, bending and pulling; and the ability work non-traditional hours based on weather conditions and to work at assigned events.

    Required Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience with maintenance on baseball or softball infield skin as well as clay areas (i.e. batters boxes, bullpens, mounds/circles).
    Experience laying out and painting field stripes/logos/markings associated with soccer and/or softball/baseball with knowledge of those regulations.
    Experience with cool season sand based and native soil fields, and synthetic turf surfaces.
    Degree in related field (horticulture, turf management, agronomy, etc.).
    Iowa Commercial Pesticide Applicator license.
    Valid driver’s license.

    Mount Mercy University is a Catholic, coeducational University founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1928 enrolling approximately 1800 students. The University offers a variety of liberal arts, professional, accelerated, and graduate degree programs on a picturesque campus overlooking the city.

    Mount Mercy University is currently seeking candidates to fill the Athletic Fields & Facilities Assistant position. This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position.

    As a member of the Maintenance and Grounds staff at Mount Mercy University, you are responsible for maintaining the physical plant and the grounds of the university at the highest level possible. This position requires but is not limited to the following:

    The care and maintenance of all of Mount Mercy athletic fields and related facilities on Campus. In addition to outdoor field maintenance, building maintenance of the Rinderknecht Athletic Center and Rinderknecht Administration Building are included. Other duties include general maintenance, renovation/deferred maintenance projects, and snow removal.

    Minimum Job Requirements

     Two-year degree in Landscape and Turfgrass Management or a related field is

    preferred but not required.

     Minimum of two years of experience in grounds maintenance work is preferred.

     Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a Mower and other machinery.

     Must understand/be familiar with preventive maintenance.

     Must be able to lift or move 50 lbs.

     Possession or willingness to obtain certification for turf and ornamental application of chemicals.

     Availability to work on-call rotations.

    Duties and Goals

     Plan and schedule daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance on athletic fields and indoor facilities.

     Oversee and maintain indoor and outdoor facilities throughout the year, including general maintenance (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and lighting).

     Schedule and maintain irrigation systems.

     Mow, aerate, spray, paint, and weed-eat grass areas.

     Brooming artificial fields including maintaining wear areas.

     Work closely with coaches to prepare fields for games.

     Operate and maintain various types of equipment including mowers, skid loaders, weed eaters, chainsaws, golf carts, scissor lifts, power tools, and essential hand tools, etc.

     Perform general labor, which may include lifting 50 lbs. or more.

     Maintain landscape areas by mulching, pruning, planting, and weeding.

     Keep grounds free of litter and debris.

     Perform duties in accordance with OSHA regulations.

     Maintain pesticide applicator certification.

     Manage snow removal as needed.

     Assist in managing daily facilities operations.

     Make necessary repairs and maintain athletic apparatus, such as metal cages, nets, goals, and equipment for baseball, basketball, softball, soccer, track, and volleyball.

     Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to assigned areas.

     Oversee the upkeep and preventive maintenance of assigned facilities.

     Assist in maintaining building security and report problems to the appropriate authority.

     May supervise students and provide guidance to staff who work in assigned areas.

     Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.

     Other duties as may be assigned.

    The Burlington Baseball Association has existed in some form since 1889. The Burlington Bees are proud members of the Prospect League, a summer collegiate wooden bat league featuring college players from around the country. The 18 team league plays from June to the first week of August.

    We are offering motivated, talented, energetic individuals an opportunity to apply for our Head Groundskeeper/Stadium Operations Supervisor position.

    Qualified candidates will have, or will be completing a degree in Turf/Field Management, or related field. They will be capable of carrying out the responsibilities listed below.

    Physical demands described here are representative of those which must be met by the candidate to successfully complete the goals and purpose of this position.     Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

    • Prepare and maintain playing surface and bullpens at the highest professional level on a year around basis. The playing surface, both grass and base paths, should be safe for players. At the same time it should be aesthetically pleasing to our fans.
    • Preparation of the field must be done effectively to facilitate the daily practice, pre-game and in-game schedule.
    • Stock and maintain required materials, such as mound clay, infield conditioner, drying compounds, line paint, etc.
    • Set up and breakdown of all equipment, including batting cage, screens, turf mats, etc. for batting practice and general practice.
    • Direct tarp usage, as well as post-game field and turf maintenance. In cooperation with game umpires and the team General Manager, monitor weather conditions in order to protect the playing surface.
    • Maintain non-playing grass and landscaped areas of the ballpark.
    • Maintain upkeep of maintenance building and storage area.
    • Operate and maintain all grounds equipment in order to extend its useful life while minimizing repair and replacement costs.
    • Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the ballpark. 
    • Ensure the proper operation of stadium facilities, and in conjunction with the General Manager, ensure needed repairs are made in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Assist in stocking supplies in concessions and restrooms.
    • Supervise part-time staff and interns who are performing both grounds keeping and operations duties.
    • Assist with preparation and running of non-baseball events.
    • Other duties as assigned
