    Job Summary

    Under the general supervision of the Sports Facilities Operations Manager, operates a variety of light and medium duty equipment for the maintenance, mowing, operation, and construction activities related to athletic fields at the Hy-Vee Multiplex and occasionally the North and South Sports Complexes. Will perform heavy manual labor when required. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establishes and maintains effective working relations with the Parks and Recreation Department, outside contractors, sports clubs, tournament directors, volunteers and the public.     Essential Duties

    • Maintains and repairs baseball/softball fields, soccer fields, common area, parking lots and other structures to sustain the sports facilities infrastructure.
    • Operates various vehicles and equipment such as: mowers, utility vehicles, power tools and hand tools.
    • Performs basic landscape techniques, including planting, pruning, weeding, and mulching.
    • Performs minor mechanical and maintenance service and performs and documents daily inspections to assigned parks vehicles and equipment.

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience

    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • General experience in the operation and maintenance of light and medium maintenance equipment, or additional skills, training, and education that otherwise qualifies.

    Licenses/Certifications

    • Valid driver’s license with access to transportation with insurance at required state levels to conduct business throughout the relevant areas.

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Knowledge of the programs and practices in a public recreational facility.
    • Knowledge of the tools and equipment associated with sports fields in a public recreational facility.
    • Ability to safely operate a variety of manual and mechanical tools and equipment.
    • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
    • Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
    • Heavy work, with occasional ability to exert up to 100 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly and move objects.

    JOB PURPOSE

    Under general direction of the Triumph Park Superintendent, performs maintenance work, and assists with oversight, coordination, and direction of seasonal staff involved in the high standards of upkeep of all grounds at Triumph Park and City owned athletic fields.

    This is a Permanent Part-Time position working 40 hours per week March - December.

    This position is not eligible for medical insurance. However, you would be eligible for IPERS.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SUCCESS FACTORS

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Follows standard operating procedures, City policy and department rules and regulations.
    • Organizes seasonal staff in the performance of a wide variety of park and grounds maintenance work.
    • Ensures that assigned crews comply with safety regulations, procedures and practices.
    • Assists superintendent with turf management and infield skin maintenance of City owned athletic fields.
    • Maintains and repairs grounds, batting cages, fences, and irrigation systems within Triumph Park.
    • Maintains cleanliness and appearance of Triumph Park including restroom, concession and dugout areas, trash and litter removal, and general clean-up.
    • Assists with general landscaping duties including tree, shrub and plant maintenance.
    • Informs superintendent of low inventory of supplies including chalk, field dry, cleaning and paper supplies.
    • Assists superintendent in routing of personnel and equipment to accomplish park maintenance goals.
    • Inspects parks frequently to ensure maintenance and appearance standards are being achieved.
    • Conducts general maintenance and repair work of equipment.
    • Maintains direct communication with Triumph Park Superintendent and staff to ensure effective operation of park activities.
    • Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Must possess, and have the ability to maintain a valid driver’s license.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Able to maneuver along walkways, trails, and undeveloped areas up to two miles in length.
    • Able to climb in and out of park equipment and other modes of transportation.
    • Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds occasionally.
    • Must be able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using electronic devices and handwritten) in English with other employees, businesses, and community members.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Work is performed inside and outside. Exposure to cold, heat and elements of weather and nature may be encountered.

    Standard work hours, must be flexible and include evenings and weekends.

    Iowa Sports Turf is hiring a Sports Field Construction Project Manager who will be responsible for managing and driving the full project life-cycle with both internal and external stakeholders through inception, design, planning, plan execution, and client follow-up. The person in this role makes decisions regarding job execution and changes and act as point of contact to communicate and clarify project scope, operations, schedule resources, and project management. This person coordinates all aspects of the job with stakeholders including engineers, general and subcontractors, subcontractors and internal management to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.

    The Project Manager must have the ability to communicate professionally and effectively, have keen attention to detail, and be able to problem solve while working with a diverse group of stakeholders. This role requires a high level of flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment where working long hours and weekends may be necessary. The ideal candidate for this role will have education in construction management or similar, experience managing construction projects, experience working as a Construction Manager at Risk, and experience with athletic surface construction projects.

    Musco Sports Lighting is hiring Athletic Field Construction Technicians for spring 2025 who will be responsible for construction and renovation projects from start to finish and reporting to the project Foreman. This person will complete a wide variety of tasks required for the construction, installation, and renovation of baseball, softball, football, and other athletic playing surfaces for all levels of competition. This job requires operating construction and maintenance equipment using a wide variety of attachments, maintaining equipment, establishing layouts and elevations based on construction documents, and loading/unloading equipment to haul to and from jobsites.
