    FACILITY: Home to Clinton LumberKings baseball team in Clinton, Iowa. The LumberKings are a member of the Midwest League and are the Class A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. A major renovation to the facility was done prior to the 2006 season. The renovation added a new team clubhouse, indoor batting cages and mounds, and a complete irrigation and playing field construction. Prior to the 2017 season, the infield was completely upgraded. The field is a sand-based short cut Kentucky bluegrass with a Hunter irrigation system.

    JOB DESCRIPTION:
    Including – but not limited to – the following activities:

    • Manage the playing surface by mowing, edging and fertilizing grassed playing surface areas, maintenance of the skinned surfaces, repair game mound and home plate along with bullpen mounds, tarping, top dressing of field, disease diagnosis, and aerating the field.
    • Maintain a safe playing surface for the players, coaches, and umpires. Abide by the Major League Baseball and Midwest League official playing rules as it pertains to field preparation and field layout and design.
    • Set irrigation programs to run and water the field, fixing any breaks or leaks in the irrigation system.
    • Maintain grassed areas outside the playing surface – yet inside the confines of the stadium. Maintain a professional look of these areas by mowing, trimming and edging grassed areas. Spray weeds in or around the stadium when necessary.
    • Maintain indoor mounds and keep batting cages clean for year round use
    • Prepare field for games and batting practice by communicating with coaches and staff for setup and tear down. And maintaining the field before and after games. Get the field ready for any high school, college games and any other events held on the field.
    • Supervise and schedule game day staff. Train staff to properly use and maintain equipment in a safe manner.
    • Assist in overall operation of ballclub – assisting other staff members when needed.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    • 2 or 4 year degree in horticulture, turf grass science, or related field or comparable experience in the turf industry.
    • Must be able to work and communicate well with others including: front office staff, coaching staffs, players, and umpires
    • Ability to work long hours including weekends and holidays for LumberKings games and non-LumberKings events including: high school and college baseball games and any off-day stadium events.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS: This is a year round position. Salary will be based on experience

    Prospect Meadows Sports Complex is located in Marion, IA. and is set to open May 2019. Phase 1 includes 13.6 million dollar project with 8 full-size baseball fields and 1 Miracle Field for local and tournament play.  Athletic surfaces include synthetic infields with natural grass outfields along with an automatic Hunter irrigation system and granite warning tracks.  More information can be found at www.prospectmeadows.com

    GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
    Under minimal supervision, the Grounds/Sportsturf Manager
    will be responsible for operations with-in maintenance, installation and supervision of all complex property.  Will be responsible for complex related property, infrastructure & equipment. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Coordinate routine and non-routine seasonal maintenance for the complexes trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, turfgrass and native habitat.

    • Manage all athletic and recreational turf areas

    • Monitor and maintain complex irrigation systems

    • Manage the upkeep in complex structures and systems.

    • Manage complex janitorial responsibilities

    • Supervise, evaluate, hire, train and schedule full-time & part-time personnel

    • Coordinate and manage on-site contractors

    • Monitor all equipment inventory, utilization, replacement cycles, maintenance and repairs.

    • Maintain compliance in record keeping and required training.

    • Assist user groups with complex activities

    • Manage and maintain hard surface areas of the complex (parking lots, roads, sidewalks, ADA)

    • Maintain exterior signage and banners

    • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

    GENERAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH OR WITHOUT A REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:
    Medium to Heavy work.  Position involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (10-33%); up to 20 pounds frequently (34-66%); and up to 10 pounds constantly (67-100%) to move objects.  Physically able to perform routine stooping, bending, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping constantly (67-100%).  Occasional (10-33%) kneeling and crawling.  Work activities occur most frequently (34-66%) outside and occasionally (10-33%) inside.

    Subject to extreme heat (temperatures above 90 degrees for periods of more than an hour; and extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour)

    Potentially subject to bio‑hazardous waste; chemical waste; moving mechanical parts; electrical current; working on scaffolding and high places up to 25 feet; atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system or the skin; fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation; noise; and vibration.

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field

    • Iowa Core and Category Pesticide Licenses

    - Basic knowledge of heavy equipment
    - 3-5 years management experience
