    Warehouse/Delivery Position - Cedar Rapids

    D & K Products is a Wholesale Supplier of Turf Care Products to golf courses, lawn care companies and sports fields in Iowa, Nebraska and Western Illinois. The applicant must have a strong work ethic, good communication skills, and the desire to service the turf industry.  A good driving record is required; the position will require the applicant to obtain a Class B CDL driver’s license to help with local deliveries.

    Duties: This position consists of loading and unloading of freight, loading customer pickups, delivering palletized product using a straight truck with a burro forklift, delivering and hand unloading from a ¾ ton pickup truck and warehouse organization. The applicant must have the ability to operate a forklift. 

    General Description: D & K Products is a wholesale supplier with 5 warehouse locations around the Midwest, currently celebrating its 40th year in business.  Due to rapid company growth this is a new position being created.   

    Education: High School Education required; 2-year college degree preferred but not necessary.

    Physical Requirements:  Must be able to lift and carry up to 70 lbs. 

    Starting wage:  $ 23.00 - $ 24.00 per hour, 40 hours per week. Weekends off.

    Assistant Head Groundskeeper Job Description

    • Triple Play Park in Cedar Rapids, Iowa consists of 6 baseball/softball fields.  4 of these fields are regulation size fields with 300’ fences.  2 of these fields are for youth baseball and softball players (9U and under) with 140’ fences down the line.  The Assistant Head Groundskeeper will be responsible for repairing and maintaining the complex’s playing surfaces and it’s surrounding components as safe, first class fields by performing daily turf, dirt and water management; game preparation as well as short and long term maintenance planning.  

      Duties and Responsibilities Summary:

    • Help with the preparation of the playing fields for practice, league play and weekend tournaments. 
    • Help manage all field prep including, but not limited to, turf management, fertilization, and disease control, edging, mound and plate prep, warning track maintenance, and infield playing surface maintenance.
    • Perform post-game field and turf maintenance as necessary.
    • Operate and maintain all equipment in a safe manner and keep in excellent working condition.
    • Lead the general upkeep and cleanliness of the ballpark, including concessions and restrooms.
    • Effectively manage a budget as assigned by Management that will include, but will not be limited to, supplies, equipment and tournament personnel’s wages.
    • Develop a relationship with tournament directors to work through the weekend field maintenance planning and scheduling.
    • Maintain a positive relationship with umpires.
    • Other duties as assigned by Management.

      Grounds Maintenance/Landscaper

      General Summary:

      Provide grounds maintenance for commercial properties including mowing, upkeep of landscaping, planters, trees and bushes.  In the off season, will need to provide snow removal for commercial properties with company provided equipment. 

      Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • 1.     Maintain, upkeep and plant landscaping.  Knowledge of small power tools for trimming and pruning trees and shrubs, pulling and spraying weeds, trimming hedges, watering and fertilizing plants, leaf removal and daily trash removal at commercial properties.  Landscape new ground areas, repairs damaged ground areas, replaces bushes, hedges, shrubs and trees.  
    • 2.     Mowing: operate and maintain commercial lawn care equipment (including zero turn riding mowers, walk behind mowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers and etc.) for mowing, trimming, edging, aerating and other similar tasks at commercial properties.  
    • 3.     Ensures properties sprinklers systems are working and general upkeep to sprinkler systems. Provide light maintenance to sprinkler systems.  
    • 4.     Applies herbicide and pesticide chemicals to grounds, trees, bushes, shrubs and lawns in order to control plant diseases and insects. Company will pay for classes and license.  
    • 5.     Snow Removal: Will help with snow removal at commercial properties.
    • 6.     Building Maintenance: Perform physical tasks necessary to maintain commercial buildings.  Assist others to provide major, minor and routine maintenance and repairs in a timely and professional manner.
    • 7.     Any other job duties as assigned.
    • Other Requirements

    • 1.     Ability to operate all necessary hand tools to make repairs.
    • 2.     Must be able to work flexible hours and to be “on call” in case of an emergency; available for overtime as needed for emergencies.
    • 3.     The position of Grounds Maintenance/Landscaper must have the physical, mental and verbal ability to perform his or her duties with minimal or no assistance (although reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform their essential functions).     What You’ll Do: As a Groundskeeper, you will assist with the maintenance of all grounds and parking areas at Farm Bureau’s West Des Moines location. You will assist with the planting, edging, pruning, fertilizing, mulching and transplanting of flowers, shrubs, trees, and bushes on our property. You will also cut the grass using foot and rider type power mowers, and operate other equipment such as a seeder, sweeper and hand power tools. It is important that you understand the various types of fertilizers and chemicals, as you will operate liquid and powder applicators applying the proper amount during the appropriate season. During the winter months, you will be responsible for removing snow and debris from walkways.

    You will work a rotational schedule Monday - Friday, with core hours being 8am-4:30pm. The rotation is one week you will work Wednesday from 5am-1:30pm, and the next week you will work Monday and Friday from 5am-1:30pm. You may work an occasional Saturday as needed, and will be on call 24/7 during snow removal – so flexibility in your schedule is key.

    What It Takes to Join Our Team:

    • High school diploma or equivalent, plus at least 2 years of horticulture, groundskeeping and/or landscaping experience required.
    • Must have or attain a Certified Applicator license (3OT (Ornamental and Turf Pest)) and maintain Continuing Education Units (C.E.U.’s) to keep the Certified Applicators license current.
    • Must be able to work under all types of weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, etc).
    • Some lifting is required (up to 100 lbs.) and extensive time is spent walking, bending and reaching.
    • Knowledge of commercial lawn mowers and small engine equipment is preferred, as well as knowledge of irrigation systems.

    Athletic Facilities Supervisor


    This is specialized and technical work in the maintenance operations of Kent/Stein Park (baseball/softball complex), and the Muscatine Soccer Complex.  Work involves initiation, direction and performance of specialized and technical tasks relating to the maintenance and care of turf grass areas, ball diamond surfaces, irrigation system management, parking lot and landscape maintenance, operating equipment, buildings and associated components.  This position reports to the Director of Parks and Recreation.



     Minimum starting salary $56,402 plus excellent benefits



    • Graduation from high school, supplemented by additional education/training provided by college or technical school in the field of turf grass management and/or athletic field maintenance, plus a minimum of two years responsible experience in athletic field, maintenance and repair; or any equivalent combination of related technical experience, education or training which would provide the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
    • Considerable technical knowledge of the specialized methods, equipment, and materials used in the maintenance and preparation of athletic fields, sports turf grass, golf courses, landscape areas and other outdoor recreational facilities.
    • Knowledge of the rules and standards associated with the following sports: soccer, baseball, softball.
    • Ability to maintain effective relationships with supervisor, other employees and the public, and to deal with public relation problems courteously and tactfully.
    • Trains, assigns, directs and evaluates the work of other personnel or volunteers engaged in the maintenance operations of the municipal athletic facilities; assists in recruitment and hiring of seasonal facility personnel.
    • Ability to plan, organize and perform standard daily maintenance schedules to provide for efficient operation, including effectively directing work activities of subordinate personnel.
    • Must be able to lift and move heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs. over extended periods of time.
    • Possession of a current State of Iowa Pesticide Applicator’s License within the first six (6) months of employment in this classification.
    • Possession of a current State of Iowa Driver’s License and continued maintenance of the license throughout period of employment and must be insurable by the City’s insurance company.
    • Residency in Iowa within 30 air miles of City Hall is required.
    • Must pass physical and drug screen prior to hire
