    Seasonal Assistant Groundskeeper

    Summary: 
    This position reports directly to the Head Groundskeeper. This person should be hard-working and self-motivated. This position assists the Head Groundskeeper in all day-to-day operations of maintaining the playing surface of Modern Woodmen Park. Modern Woodmen Park is home to the Quad Cities River Bandits (Single A affiliate of the Houston Astros) and Saint Ambrose University. In 2017 the playing surface won multiple awards including STMA’s Stars and Stripes Mowing Contest and Pioneer Athletics Fields of Excellence. Have the opportunity to volunteer at the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run. Preferred dates of employment are March 1st to September 30th but can be flexible based on school schedules.

    Responsibilities:
    Duties include but not limited to: assist in the upkeep of a sand based Kentucky Bluegrass playing surface, mowing, edging, fertilizing, aeration, topdressing, sodding, skin maintenance, mound and plate repair, irrigation repair, basic operation and maintenance to equipment, field markings and logo painting, special events that may be held on the field and other related duties as required.

    Qualifications:
    Preferred enrollment in or graduated from a 2 or 4-year turf program, working knowledge of the maintenance of sports fields, strong personal/team work ethic, high level of integrity, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays, must be able to lift at least 50 lbs., work in various weather conditions, and the ability to handle multiple task at once.

    The University of Iowa department of Facilities Management is seeking a GROUNDSKEEPER I to operate and maintain power equipment, truck and light machinery and maintain grounds including lawn areas, sidewalks, parking lots and streets.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Turf work-mow, trim, lay sod/overseed, water
    • Assist Area Groundskeepers-bed maintenance
    • Assist installation crew-prep, install, water
    • Maintain equipment and tools-clean, sharpen and service
    • Attend meetings, converse with unit leaders on daily assignments, complete training requirements as necessary
    • Snow removal work-operate plow trucks, loader, skid steer, utility vehicle, and hand tools

    Facilities Management (FM) is a service unit of approximately 700 employees who work behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, serving the University of Iowa as stewards of our beautiful Iowa City campus.     Linn-Mar Community School District in Marion, Iowa, has an opening for a full-time Athletic Grounds worker. This position will be responsible for maintaining all district athletic grounds and facilities.

    Duties:

    • Arrange set up prior to all athletic events:
      • Groom and maintain playing fields
      • Mow and trim designated areas
      • Move/Set up athletic equipment outdoors
      • Set up and store equipment before and after athletic events
    • General maintenance of district grounds to include:
      • Mowing, trimming, fertilizing and spraying
      • General maintenance of sidewalks, paths, parking lots and playgrounds
      • Properly clean and store equipment after use
      • Landscape installs
      • Pour concrete
      • Irrigation install
      • Drainage install
    • Make minor repairs to equipment to insure proper working condition to minimize down time and to make safety of the equipment a priority
    • Assist with irrigation schedules, repairs, start up and winterizing of athletic fields
    • Operate equipment such as mowers, tractors, skid steer, line painter, utility vehicles, etc.
    • Winter snow removal
    • Regular and reliable attendance
    • Other duties as assigned

    Minimum Education or Experience
    High school graduate or GED
    Two or four year turf degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    Experience in a related field preferred
    Valid driver’s license
    Possess an Iowa certified pesticide applicators license
